A+ A-

Damien

“What’s going on over there?” Velvet taps my shoulder and points to the other side of me. Looking over I see a crowd of people surrounding something.

“Eh, probably someone making a scene.” I turn back to the game I was playing, and miserably failing.

“Milo!- Man- Milo is fighting a guy over there!” Noelle shouted in a panic, my head immediately whips around and I drop the hoops in my hand.

Of course it’s someone I know fighting in the middle of an amusement park.

“Is he winning?” Velvet asks, which makes me look at her confusedly. That’s not the problem here, but at the same time I do wanna know if he’s winning.

“I’m just asking.”

I run and quickly push myself through the crowd until I’m in the front, and I see Milo and a some guy fighting. The man has blood spilling from his lips, with a busted lip, along with a bruise swelling up on his cheek. Milo, a slowly swelling eyes with a bloody nose, that looks like it’s been bleeding for a while.

“So he is winning.” Velvet said out of nowhere, nearly startling me by being closer than I anticipated.

“Velvet, not the time.”

“My bad.”

So, do I just go in and pull Milo off? I mean I should, but I wanna see how this ends. Who’s gonna get knocked out?

“What’s happening- Damien!” Caleb shouted my name, and involuntarily my head whipped around for him until I spotted him.

“Where’s Cameron?”

“Still in the back. Is that Milo?” Caleb looked up at the two fighting

“Yea.”

“Why aren’t you stopping him?! He could be seriously hurt.” Caleb angrily retorted at me with an almost obnoxious frown.

“I kinda wanna see who wins.”

“If the police get here, he’s gonna be taken down to the station.” Caleb groaned as he dragged me into the middle and forced me to pull Milo away from the guy.

“Y-Yea! Get the little boy out of here!” The man shouted with an obnoxious laugh. Milo managed to shove both of us off and punched the guy again, but this time the guy fell to the floor. Luckily Me and Caleb managed to grab him again and pull him away from the man.

He was panting as we pulled him far away from the whole scene and sat him down on a random bench we found.

“What the hell-” Caleb pressed a finger over my lips with a glare that you’d receive from a parent when your acting out in a store.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?” Caleb crouches down in front of Milo. Who’s looking down at his lap, heavily breathing. His fist still clenched tight.

“…”

“Milo say something, are you hurt anywhere else?” Caleb spoke more sternly, as if he was talking to a child.

“…No.”

“What hap-“

“Damien, let him calm down before you ask questions. You might trigger his adrenaline to spike back up.”

“Look who’s acting like a parent.” I shove my hands in my pockets and roll my eyes.

“I’m gonna get you some ice, I’ll be back. Damien, watch him and try not to piss him off.” Caleb stands up from the ground and walks off into a random direction.

I looked down at Milo and collapsed down next to him, “Alright, I don’t give a shit if I piss you off or not. What the hell happened?”

“He was being a weirdo, making Noelle uncomfortable by kissing her and shit. I told him to piss off, and it escalated from there. Simple.”

“Yea, well that was an irrational decision..”

“Since when has irrational been in your vocabulary?” He finally looks up and his eyes meet with mine. His blue eyes shine brightly with the sun hitting his face perfectly. They looked like lovely diamonds.

“Since the day I learned the word irrational.”

“Har, har. You’re hilarious.” He rolled his eyes before leaning back on the bench

After a few comfortable moments of silence Caleb is back, with some Ice and a wet napkin. “Hold this against your eye.” He hands Milo the ice pack before wiping all the blood from his nose with the damp napkin and sitting down on the other side of him.

“So I have to hold this against my eye all day?” He groan as he pressed the ice against his eyes.

“Yes.” Caleb paused, “What—”

“I already asked.” I chimed.

“I don’t regret a damn thing I did. That country bastard had it coming.” Milo crossed his arms stubbornly

“What he’d do?”

“He kept kissing Noelle’s hand, clearly she was uncomfortable, but he kept doing it. Shit was said, and he shoved me and it escalated from there.”

The moment was silent. The comforting silence made me relax from the mini adrenaline I had pumping not too long ago.

“You guys basically ran off, we were looking for you guys.” Velvet said out of nowhere as she came into view, along with Noelle.

“I’m so sorry Milo, I—”

“It’s fine, It’ll heal in a few days.” Milo said with a nonchalant shrug, as if he’s gotten over the whole situation.

“You beat the absolute shit out of him dude. You are a protective man to your girlfriend.”

I froze

Girlfriend?

When in the hell did they become a thing? Milo would have definitely said something if he was dating someone. Or would he keep it a secret?

Maybe I was the tiniest bit jealous, that Milo and Noelle might be together. But it’s no big deal, if he’s happy, I’m more than happy for him. Or at least I should be.

“You guys are together?” Caleb was the first to ask. I look between the two, Noelle and Milo. Both of them had a tint of pink on their faces, and I wasn’t sure if it was from them being embarrassed or flustered.

“No, we aren’t. She’s just a friend.” Milo clarified, and I mentally gave a sigh of relief.

Good

“Oh, sorry. You guys seemed really close—”

“Milo Browne!” Cameron shouted in a stern tone, I watched Milo’s expression fade the moment he heard Cameron. The brunet stormed up to Milo. “What in the absolute hell!”

“Do you want me to apologize?”

“Do you know what could have happened to you if these two didn’t pull you away?”

“No and yes.”

“Out of everyone here, I would have expected Damien to fight and cause a scene, rather than someone who hates attention.” Cameron let out a sigh like a disappointed parent as he pinched the bridges of his nose.

“It wasn’t his fault, I should take partial blame.” Noelle added as she stepped towards Cameron.

“I feel like a parent when I’m with you guys.” Cameron looked down at his watch before looking up at the sky, “The fireworks are about to start.”

I pulled out my phone, it reads 7:29, the fireworks were going to start in one minute.

“3…2…1”

The fireworks cracked into the sky, and everyone attention was at the sky. Everything seemed to calm down as the fireworks cracked and popped, lighting up the sunset sky even more.

I take in a deep breath and let my body relax and take in the beauty of the sky.
